Anthony Holt
I am a writer of fiction and non-fiction books and a public speaker. My writing is influenced by my career as a naval officer, and my second career as a Chief Executive of two famous London clubs. In the navy I served as a Fleet Air Arm pilot, a seaman officer and, later, in staff appointments, including the unique post of Flag Lieutenant to the admiralty Board. After the navy I spent 18 years running, successfully, two of London’s well known gentlemen’s clubs. In the Navy I travelled all over the world, spending years at sea and along the way picking up an Open University Degree and the award of an MBE. I had adventures, fun, excitement, and met a lot of fascinating people, some of whom appear in different guises in my books. I am a member of the Society of Authors, the Nautical institute. a Governor of the RNLI and a volunteer for the National Coastwatch Institute.

I have written eight books, the first two, ‘Spoofy’ and ‘At Least We Didn’t Sink’ being memoirs set in Australia, and at sea in the last Australian aircraft carrier. These are no longer available from Amazon, but a few copies can still be obtained from me. I also wrote three sets of short stories, almost all of the 29 stories being based on actual events. More recently I have completed ‘Privateer’ a modern-day story of pirates; ‘Harry’s Revenge’ about vicious crime and appropriate retribution; and my latest book ‘HMS Archer’ a tale of nautical challenge and heroism in the British American War of 1812. All of these are available from Amazon.

As I sit here at my computer, I am listening to Storm Eunice raging outside, alternately screaming and wailing, and gusting up to Severe Storm Force Eleven, even in my relatively sheltered garden. Local schools have been closed, trees are coming down, and even the...
